Device Details

We service and restore all our old film cameras in our workshops in Lyon.

This model is the legendary Calypso, a diving camera invented by Jean De Wouters for Jacques Cousteau.

It has shutter speeds ranging from 1/30 to 1/1000, and a B setting.

Fully serviced: speeds, winding mechanism, shutter release, etc. Please note: when designed, this camera did not take into account film perforations, which causes irregular spacing. The spacing has been checked with film and is consistent over most of the film. The end of the film may have reduced and more irregular spacing: it is advisable to wind gently throughout the film, especially towards the end.

Regarding waterproofing, it has not been checked due to the age of the camera. The seals are in very good condition on the camera body; slightly cracked on the front of the lens but without compromising its integrity. It is advisable to use it on land first, but it can be used underwater after considering the information provided in our description. Although perfectly functional, it is first and foremost a collector's item, a piece of history.

Sold with its 35mm metal diving viewfinder.

This camera body is sold with its lens:

Som Berthiot Flor 35mm 1:3.5. Please note: scratches are present on the protective glass of the lens (not directly on the lens). The lens may sometimes lack sharpness due to its age, but it has no fungus or haze. Can be used both in and out of the water.

All our cameras are old: they may show signs of wear. The photos are there to best describe the condition of the items. Do not hesitate to contact us if you would like additional information.
