Description

The Infrared filter is used in analog (and digital) photography to isolate the infrared part of the light spectrum and modify your image.

It should be used with films with increased sensitivity: Rollei Infrared, Rollei Retro, Rollei Superpan, Washi Z, Adox HR-50...

The infrared filter makes it possible to isolate a part of the light spectrum that we do not see as humans: infrared light (beyond red). Some silver halide films are sensitive to this part of the spectrum; by using this filter, this part is isolated and the effect of infrared photography is revealed. Infrared photography is particularly suitable for bright sunshine and scenes with vegetation. Plants appear white with a "bony" appearance, and skies have a dramatic, very dark effect.

Before using an infrared film, a few precautions are necessary:

- Infrared radiation penetrates plastic; an infrared film should only be used with a metal camera body.

- The focus is altered; it is always closer in infrared. A red line or dot should be present on your lens; this is the infrared focus indicator.

- The infrared filter is extremely dark; exposure times can easily be several seconds, even 20/30 seconds, depending on your scene and lighting. Bracketing is often recommended.

- Some labs do not accept infrared black and white films.

You can find out the filter thread size of your lens by measuring the internal thread; it does not correspond at all to the focal length: for example, a 50mm 1.8 lens can have a 49, 52, or 55mm thread...
